This rusty spinner is tied in size 12 for the Hendricksons. It borrows techniques from two of my favorite tying books. From Kelly Galloup's "Cripples and Spinners" I got the idea for the wider wing-base (tying in three clumps of hi-vis instead of one, then trimming). From Lloyd Gonzales's "Fly Fishing Pressured Water" I got the dyed mono tails and the idea to burn hi-vis wings. Put together all the ingredients plus a lightweight quill body on a 3X fine hook and you've got a fine dry fly. The stiffness makes it a bit twisty on a light tippet, but it's manageable.
very imaginative--how long does it take you to tie one?
Good looking Spinner-------I'll bet you can see it when the light fades.
It is pretty good for a spinner pattern as far as visibility goes. The wings look white when they're dry, but they do take on a more transparent look when they're wet, which is good for realism but makes the fly a bit less visible than you'd expect.
